‘Too much of anything will kill you but a little Venom is intoxicating’ - Sadguru
This vision came from an intensive meditation and breath work practice….as I followed my breath it began to weave in and out of my Energy Centers…I could feel my organs and glands filling with light and healing. Eventually I could see the Snakes moving as a caduceus….dancing in and out of each other and consuming one another at my pelvic floor and then again at my crown….as I could zoom in they would slow and at one point they ‘kissed’ -gently biting- my pineal gland and in a rush of light and clarity I felt my heart burst and Third Eye open. Intoxicated with oxygen.
With the Cobra Breath we can flood the body with these chemicals of euphoria- the Cosmic Force. I see and feel them, often wrapped around me, massive and made of stars.
This piece shows the moment of the Kiss. The feeling of complete freedom and total security. Oneness and openness. FreeHearted….BoldHearted…. ultimately creative.
Note: Since this initial Snake Breath vision I have heard of a method utilized for a millennia with yogis- the Serpent Breath. There is Tantric Breath, Kundalini….all utilizing the flow of the Snakes movement to rejuvenate and awaken the fire within.
Serpent / Snake symbolism
Snakes are synonymous with death & evil as well as rejuvenation and intuition the Snake has been a powerful visual throughout time, culture, religion & class.-Classic in the Bible story of Adam & Eve the Snake represents desire and evil and satin- tempting Eve to eat the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden. The Snake is blamed for their fall from grace and exile into the ‘real world’.
In India, both Hindus and Buddhists have special reverence for the cobra. Hindus believe in the immortality of the snake due to the shedding of its skin, and a snake eating its tail is a Hindu symbol of eternity. The Indian deity Vishnu sits atop a thousand-headed serpent, which also represents eternity.
In an Egyptian heroic story Isis created the first snake, a cobra, to poison Ra. He was creating suffering for Earths Children with his neglect pathetic old attitude. With the pain of the bite He gave Her his magic name so she could restore balance to earth. She did retract the poison. In ancient Egyptian art the cobra, used as a symbol of sovereignty, royalty, deity and divine authority.
Hermes Caduceus, the symbol for everything relating to healthcare - possibly originated when Mercury once attempted to stop a fight between two snakes by throwing his rod at them, whereupon they twined themselves around the rod, and the symbol was born.
The Rod of Asclepius (looking identical to the Caduceus) belonged to Aesculapius, who was the revered Greek god- son of Apollo, and the god of medicine and healing. ... The snake that's wrapped around the rod may symbolize rejuvenation, because snakes shed their skin, or it could simply represent the healing of snakebites.
Around the globe there are groups that worship Snakes ritually. The snake primarily represents rebirth, death and mortality, due to its casting of its skin and being symbolically "reborn". Over a large part of India there are carved representations of cobras or nagas or stones as substitutes. To these human food and flowers are offered and lights are burned before the shrines.
In Incan culture the Snake was one of the Trinity of power animal gods along with Puma and Condor….likenesses are carved in temples and ascending pyramids….the most famous example in Mexico is the 25m high step pyramid called El Castillo, the Pyramid of Kukulkán. Kukulan is a feathered snake god, similar to Quetzalcoatl. The pyramid dedicated to him was designed as a calendar. The four sided pyramid has staircases on each face, each of which has 91 steps. Combined with the platform, this totals the 365 days of the solar year. On equinoxes the Snake appears to move as the shadows from the steps cast perfectly or the shadow illuminates one portion at a time
